10 Ways to Find Your Lost Inspiration

30Dec07

The artist must raise the cup of his vision aloft to the gods in the high hope that they will pour into it the sweet mellow wine of inspiration.
- Paul Brunton

There are so many highly motivated people in the world. They know their purpose, they know where they’re going, they become so surprisingly productive. But once in a while, they hit a trough and without realizing, they lose momentum. Many of us have been in a position where we feel that we are not doing our best. And sometimes, we make excuses, procrastinate and lose confidence. Here are 10 ways to find your lost inspiration. These are simple things that could inspire you back onto your path of following your dreams.

Rise early – This is a very popular method to be more productive and healthy. Never trade lovely mornings for a couple of hours of lousy sleep! Make sure you hit the sack on time and you will start everyday on a bright and confident note.

Exercise – When you’re in a bad phase, chances are that you might not want to care much about your fitness. I’ve experienced this many times and trust me; it’s hard to continue your workouts when you don’t feel like it. But that’s no reason to give up! You deserve a sound body and mind. Keep it going and you are sure to hit your momentum again.

Read books – Read inspiring books and stories. We have so much to learn and no book is that bad not to teach us at least one good lesson. One great book could propel you back on your path and you know what, you will be more equipped than the last time you were on track.

Take a walk – If you’re not doing that well, may be you need a little time for yourself. Take a walk down the lane or by the shore and reflect on your goals. This gives so much clarity and peace that you’d want to do it everyday. With a busy schedule to follow, it’s easy to lose vision. But a pleasant walk every morning will help you stay focused.

Go to the local bookstore or library – Go to a bookstore or a library and spend some time being surrounded by books. Flip through some good books and magazines and you will find it refreshing. Being surrounded by books is like moving around with all the great people that wrote them.

Stick with creative people – When you’re not confident, stick with a friend or family member who’s confident and creative. Creative thinking and action will have an immediate impact on you. So be around with your most creative and helpful buddy.

Do stuff out of the box – Sit down and think out of the box. Do something adventurous like going on a trip to some exotic country, or running a marathon or taking part in a fun filled social event. Start doing crazy things or paint your walls! Sudden changes like these will trigger changes in the way you look at things.

Watch a good movie – Watch movies of heroism and achievement. Lots of movies are being made on inspiring people. May be you should rent a movie and get inspired!

Surf the web – Try surfing the internet. I’m sure you’ll find a lot of interesting stuff. Use social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon and Digg and you’ll have a productive time. Or maybe you should go google yourself. Sometimes I google myself and it spurs me on to make an impact in this big world.

Stop the negative flow of energy – So far, we talked about the things you should start doing to find your lost inspiration. But there is also one thing that you must stop doing. You must stop procrastinating and stop doing all the things that take you nowhere. Stop the negative flow of energy and start being the most positive person you know. Start feeling cheerful for the smallest of things. You have every reason to be at your best!

Following any one of these could help you find your lost inspiration. Take a day off and use all the above ways to start rocking again!

Very nice collection of “inspiration tips”. I know what it’s like to lose your inspiration. The longer I work as a creative designer the harder it is to feel inspired at times. Many of your tips have helped me and I’m going to give the ones I’ve never tried a shot.

Simple yet enjoyable post - another one of my personal favorites is to travel! Often a change of perspective can make worlds of difference… even if it’s something as little as traveling to the beach or mountains for the day.

I prefer international travel, it is generally impractical for financial reasons to do often.

Nice collection of inspiration tips. Although, I’m not sure about surfing the internet, I think most inspiration comes offline.

Nice to see a quote by Paul Brunton, who I admire alot.

Thanks Tejvan, for your compliments :) I’ve found the web quite inspiring on number of occasions…maybe it’s because of the fact that I spend most of my time online :) I’ve learned many life lessons when just surfing!

Good that you like Paul Brunton. Cheers!

    Tejvan,

I also have to agree with Manu on the internet thing - however, a lot of it depends on the method and place of mind I’m at.

Sometimes websurfing for me does decrease my inspirational level. However, I’ve also found that StumbleUpon can lead me to some places that considerably increase my motivation.

Stumbling / surfing is one of the topics I cover in my upcoming ebook as one of many ways to gain inspiration / creative ideas.

I am a musician and primary song writer in a band. Lately ive found myself in a very dark place where im stuck in a real rut. Everything sounds the same and i cant seem to get away from the same sort of chord patterns and ideas. I seem to spend more time staring at a blank screen and completely unmotivated. Its almost like im stuck in a grey cloud, unable to break free.

But your tips have almost lite my way and in truth alot of what you say is pretty much required for a healthy mind, regardless to creativity. So i would like to talk this chance to thank you.
