I don’t know why, but we people keep bumping into problems all the time. During these tough times, we should not fall apart and even if we do, we must learn to pick ourselves up.
Motivation comes in two kinds – external and internal motivation. You cannot always expect someone to help you out of trouble. We folks go to counselors only to find out what we already know. They just make us think the right way.
So why not internally motivate ourselves and reduce the workload for the professionals till they run out of business??
How do we pick ourselves up amidst all the chaos of our everyday life?

1. Look for the positive
Convince yourself that tough times don’t last. Everything must pass. Commit yourself to look for opportunities when in trouble (be it opportunities to do something or opportunities to learn new things). Who knows…being in a crisis could actually turn out to be fun! So look for the positive!
Good people have a set of good values that they believe in. When you stick to your core values, you always end up doing the right thing. Always stick to your core values (values that make you the person you are). You can add some values from time to time, but never lose them!
Autosuggestion is repeating the same thing over and over again until it sticks permanently to your belief system. If you keep telling yourself that you can do something, you probably will do something. Echo your values and feel good about yourself. What runs in your mind again and again gets registered into your sub-conscious mind. Use auto-suggestion to convince yourself that you have no limits. Make sure your auto-suggestions are positive because negative ones will affect you badly.
4. Ask questions – Self analysis
Ask yourself questions like, ‘what am I doing everyday to accomplish my goals?’, ‘where do I want myself to be 5 years from now?’ and analyze where you’re heading. Imagine yourself as a counselor and carefully analyze your character and recent behavior.
Make a reality-check calendar on your own – write down your goals for a particular month and before going to bed, record how you’re progressing everyday. Here is a sample of a reality-check calendar:
5. Think forward
To follow your goals, you need to schedule and plan everything that you want to accomplish. Think forward and plan for long term gains irrespective of the trouble that you’re in at the moment. And you know what; careful planning will easily get you out of otherwise serious pitfalls.
Getting busy with your goals will ensure that your goals are the chief part of your mental design. Start immediately if you have to chase a dream. Become so busy with your professional and personal goals that negative things don’t get into your mind.
The nice thing about getting down the brass tucks is that, #you don’t let yourself drown in self-pity, #you learn to handle the natural temptation to feel dejected and the temptation to take the easy way. Why? Simple - You’ll not have the time for all this! They say that an empty mind is the devils den. Go, get busy!
As it’s very important to spend time with your loved ones, it’s even more important to spend time with your inner selves. Meditate and reflect. It’s food for your mind and body.
We get influenced a lot by our circumstances and the people around us. Calming yourself will make you stay original. It gives clarity to your thoughts. Life becomes a pleasant experience as you start appreciating even the smallest of things.
Learn to relax and communicate with yourself well. After all, it’s a lovely thing to do!
P.S. Read good books! Books are external motivators. But they instill in you some values that you can use to internally motivate yourself in the future!
