Traveling Abroad – 15 Things to Ponder

04Dec07

Once in a while we go overseas for business trips or vacations. Traveling to new places could be a wonderful thing to do, considering the routine that most of us go through everyday. But planning everything before we start could help us be more organized. There are 15 things that come to my mind when I think of traveling abroad:

1. Carry with you only the things that you cannot do without. Carry only the most needed ones. Travel light.

2. Don’t take very important objects (like jewellery or cherished family property) with you…unless if it’s a must.

3. Do some research about the place that you’re going to visit. Study it’s time zones, local climate and key spots.

4. Consider carrying travel tools like maps, GPS, hand sanitizers, zipper bags and tissue papers.

5. Apply for travel insurance. This could help in handling unexpected mishaps.

6. Register with your respective travel registration bureau, so that your people can be contacted in case of an emergency.

7. Protect your documents! You don’t want to end up without your passport, permit and other papers, right?

8. Have some extra money while traveling. This will help in covering unforeseen expenses (which are pretty common during travel).

9. Get an idea about currency exchange and conversion rates.

10. Take care of your health. Traveling could be tiring for many of us. Try to get bottled water and make sure you eat healthy food. Eating light will help (You can always get back to your gluttony when you get home!)

11. Make sure you sleep well while you’re away. Travel could have a big effect on your health. You’ll be able to enjoy yourself better if you manage your sleep habits well.

12. Don’t go overboard – sometimes we over-program when we travel. Don’t change your diets suddenly. Changes in food, climate can be stressful. Plan, but don’t over do.

13. If you’re going to take your pet with you, contact the officials at the embassy. They’ll help you out with the procedures.

14. Take a camera with you! You’ll have wonderful memories to relish if you record everything you experience through pictures, videos and travel journals.

15. Relax! Travel is fun. Visiting new places and meeting new people is refreshing. Again, don’t over do anything. Be in comfortable clothes and have fun!
